About Us

Camp Able at Coronado is a beach-based, aquatic day camp that operates each Summer. Our program includes daily activities of sailing, canoeing, swimming, boogie-boarding, water play, crafts, singing, games, and campfires. Designed to accommodate children and adults with a wide range of disabilities, the program is seen as an all-inclusive experience for agencies supporting the disabled community throughout San Diego County. We encourage such agencies to bring their clients to Crown Cove for unforgettable memories and invaluable social interaction.

Camp is tailored to provide our campers with a multitude of choices in daily activities while encouraging hands-on involvement in recreation that may frequently be closed-off to them. The purpose of each day’s activities is to create an emphasis and understanding of individual abilities and strengths. This focus on ability challenges our campers to trust in what they are capable of, to increase their self-esteem and to develop the self-confidence necessary to explore challenging activities in all aspects of life.

Our non-profit organization is the result of a cooperative effort on the part of several community agencies. Funding is provided through generous donations and fundraisers held throughout the year. The SDSU Foundation manages accounting, payroll, and insurance. California State Parks and Recreation, alongside Silver Strand State Beach, provide our beach site and building. Local agencies serving individuals with disabilities provide additional camper recruitment and supervisory personnel.

We serve a variety of campers each summer! We have campers of all ages and abilities. We offer registration for groups and for individuals. Campers can attend for widely variable amounts of time. Some may attend for just a few days a year, while others attend all summer long.

For pricing and this year’s camp dates, please see the “Registration” page.

Our Mission:

Camp Able is a non-profit organization that focuses on empowering the disabled community through an increased appreciation and awareness of ABILITIES in an incredibly FUN and SAFE aquatic environment. Through grants and charitable capital, Camp Able provides services that help contribute to the vitality of our campers while fostering compassion and respect for all.
